Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of You...

Day 7 and 8 of simbang Gabi

I'm bouncing back from an absent on Day 6 and this time, I'm already HOME. I decided to hear mass at our very own parish in Baao - St. Bartholomew Parish. I thought that they have the same time of start of masses like in Manila but it's much early here. As early as 4 AM you can already hear the voice of the priest. What has been a tradition here during dawn masses is that every after the mass, some sponsor barangays of our town conduct ashort program in the Patio asa way to entertain the parishioners. I've been used to it since I was a kid.

You really have here the "Probinsya Christmas Fever". Unlike in Manila where there is the Puto Bumbong and Bibingka, it's Ginalpong that greets the parishioners after masses which is a "kakanin" prepared by the sponsor barangay. Another thing I love aout masses here is that every dawn mass from Day 1 to Day 9 makes the church Jam-Packed. People are coming from far places and even from those mountainous areas of our town. It's really one big proff how devout the people of Baao are.

No wonder because history has been a big part of it. Hello? This is where the first Filipino Bishop was Born. No Baaoenyo is an idiot of that fact.

Anyways, I'm still enjoying and ecstatic about my stay here. Tomorror is the last morning of the 9-day sacrifice and hoping I would come early for the mass.

Day 6: I'm home

I missed Day 6 of Simbang Gabi ending my streak to 5.

Reason? I went home to Camarines Sur. Hoping that the bus would come as early as 4 AM so I could still attend the mass in Baao, I decided to go home early for the Christmas break. Unfortunately things got worse. There was a major traffic in EDSA(which always happened) and a car accident along the way in Laguna. I got home around 5 AM and decided not to go to the Church anymore because it would be too late.

I'm home. I'm enjoying my stay here but I'm also missing some people I left there in Manila.

By thins time, let me greet everyone an advance Merry Christmas.

Day 5 at PACO

With no Church left in my list, I decided to hear mass for Day 5 at the San Fenando Dilao Parish in Paco, Manila.

It was a newly painted church. They have those Latin phrases encrypted on its walls and ceilings which makes it hard for like ordinary layman to understand. I think one thing why its hard for parishioners to understand the teachings of God and why it is hard for priests to evangelize is because most teachings are really hard to understand by the ordinary people. How will someone try to reflect on those teachings if they could not understand what it means? What will a mother tells her child if asked what does those things in the ceiling says?

I hope that with the new order of Pope Bendeict that Catholics evangelize Catholics, maybe the Church reaches out to its people on how they could clearly understand the teachings in their own tongue.

Wednesday is for Baclaran Church: Simbang Gabi Day 4

I'm still on my "Visita Iglesia 2007" which coincides with the Simbang Gabi and unlike before which I have my last minute decision of where and what place Church to go, this time it was my girlfriend Clarizze who suggested 2 days ago that we hear mass at Baclaran in Paranaque or the National Shrine of our Lady Of Perpetual Help.

It's wednesday and for most religious Filipinos, Baclaran is the number one place to go even in normal Wednesdays and not only during Christmas Season. Many believed that the Our Lady of Perpetual Help image is really one of the most miraculous among all images of the Virgin Mary. No wonder that thousands flocked in this Church yesterday for the fourth day of Simbang Gabi despite the slumpy streets of Paranaque along its way and the danger of snatchers notorious in all corners of its streets. This is the only church where in I've lost my concentration during the mass because I can't help to look at the people around me who really came from all walks of life.

Right now, I'm trying to figure out where to go later for Day 5 of Simbang Gabi. On my list are Paco Church and Ermita Church.

Binondo Church : Simbang Gabi Day 3

I'm still on my 9-day "Visita Iglesia " as part of my Simbang Gabi ritual which I intend to start only this year.

After Malaate Church and Manila Cathedral for Days 1 and 2, Clarizze and I intended to hear mass for the 3rd day of Simbang Gabi at theMinor Basilica of St. Lorenzo Ruiz in Binondo, Manila.

The Church was stunningly beautiful. It's one of the most beautiful church I've ever been to. It's like a replica of the St. Peters Basilica in Rome with all its beautiful paintings and murals hanged in all its wall. Too bad I haven't brought my camera to capture the beautiful church of Binondo.

Simbang Gabi Day 2

I'm currently on a RELIGIOUS TOUR of the different churches here in Manila as I plan to complete the nine dawn masses or the Filipino's official countdown of Christmas.

Yesterday I was at MALATE CHURCH or the OUR LADY of THE REMEDIES PARISH and earlier this morning, me and my girlfriend Clarizze hear mass at The Basilica-Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception or known to many as THE MANILA CATHEDRAL.

It was my second time to be in that Church but it was my first time to hear mass inside the Cathedral. It was really one of the most beautiful Cathedral I've seen in my entire life with all those Spanish Architecture depicted in every wall. There really is a strong Spanish environment inside. We were waiting to see Padre Damaso or even Maria Clara to appear. LOL.

I really wish I could complete my 9-dawn expedition and right now, I'm thinking of where I plan to hear mass tomorrow for Day 3 of Simbang Gabi.

Dawn Mass

Today is December 16.

"Simbang Gabi" kicked off earlier this morning . It is a 9-day early masses which starts December 16 and ends on December 24 and concluded by a mass on Christmas eve. Of course, being in Manila where Christmas is felt as early as October, I decided not to sleep yesterday so I could be on time for the for the start of the "Misa De Gallo".


I decided to hear mass at the Our Lady of Remedies Parish or popularly known as MALATE CHURCH. I was one of the first to go inside because I was there as early as 3:15 AM and the Church is only about to open. I intentionally planned to go there early so as to have a seat luxury and I was lucky to be in front of the altar and beside the Chorale Group.

Lights inside the church were turned on at around 3:30 AM and I was amused to see that they are using LCD projector for their masses. Wow and lucky for them to have that kind of luxury. An early reminder was flashed on the screen saying:

I grinned when I read the sign. COMEDY inside the Church. Anyways, the whole flow of the mass in Malate was different from those I've attended in the past year. In Malate Church, they change the tradition of praying the rosary before the mass to giving lectures to the people and letting the parishioners understand why they celebrate such things and how Jesus infancy was told in the GOSPEL. I think its better than the old one because we should put importance in educating everybody and telling them about God as a whole instead of letting them pray tons of Hail Mary's without understanding why such things were done.

Another good thing about the MALATE CHURCH is that the Celebrant gives homily as fast as One Minute unlike in other Churches that HOMILY could take to about 30 minutes. Just a short message and everything was fine. Let the people think and reflect on the message rather explain to them the whole bible which for sure they could not understand.



Of course, as soon as the mass ended, the best way to start the morning after the simbang gabi is to have a taste of the PUTO BUMBONG and BIBINGKA. The Puto Bumbong took time for them to cook that is why I opted for the BIBINGKA.

And yes, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED for today.

Living in an Unknown World

Why am I here? It is the question I always asked myself when I'm in an environment I'm not used of.

Like now, I'm in a place of mixed people. Different races. Separated of different status. Yes, of different personalities. Mixed as they say. I am here. I am alone. I am unknown. Nobody knows me here. Nobody knows why I am here.

I'm sipping my hot coffee and all I can think of is the aroma that is as sweet as the agonies I am enduring. I wanted to relax. I'm trying to relax. I wanted to breath. I wanted to taste every air I can. I wanted a life for myself. I wanted myself today all unknown.

Why am I here? I asked myself again. I don't belong here. I know. I'm a minority and I should be out there with all of them. Well who cares? This place is where the minority are. They work. They run the whole thing. They are called the manpower. They have the strength that could pin down any system as big as a block of an ice. They are hot and they won't cool down. They are on the attack. No resting. No one could stop them. Actually, they're just not allowed to stop. They are robots. Someone behind their backs have controlled to each and everyone of them.

Why am I here? I did not pay for this cup of coffee. The whole working class paid for this. I owe them. Do I deserve this? Do I deserve them? Do I deserve to relax why they are working to death? Or am I another hypocrite? How many hypocrites are here around me? Do they ask the same question as mine?

Status is a question always left unanswered in our minds. We always try to look at ourselves higher and bigger than the other, or if not, level ourselves among the elite. We are envy. Always. What we do not know is that there are more higher than us. We worked for them to death that we even have to kiss their feet.

People walked in and out of here in this place where I am right now. Do they have questions same as mine? I asked again. Am I the only unknown here? Why am I here? I again asked myself.

I am here for a cup of coffee. That is all I know. I'm here to sip the goodness of aroma that is as sweet as my yesterdays of hatred, gore and total animosity.

This is reality. I'm reality. Why I'm here is because of reality.

Having Fun

I am a free man yesterday and there is no other way to enjoy it but to hop and hop everywhere.

After our duty in RITM, I was supposed to get back to my dorm and just enjoy playing NBA LIVE 08 at the nearby cafe when I saw Rio and Tarah also on their way out of the RITM complex so what I did was to join them. Unluckily, there is no available FX ride so we decided to walk from the institutes' gate up to Metropolis Alabang.

Realizing that it's going to be a long journey plus the fact that it is raining, we decided to get a cab but unluckily, the cab would charge us 80php from RITM to Metropolis but he voluntarily offered his cab that he will take us up to Festival Supermall for free and told us that we could get a ride from Festival Mall to Metropolis. So we hopped in and went to Festival Supermall which is actually my first time to be in that mall.

Another bad luck came while we were in there because there are no jeepneys going to Metropolis at that time that is why realizing that it was already past 12PM, we decided to have lunch first inside the mall.

We ate at KFC per Rio's request. It was my first time to eat with other people other than Clah or my groupmates again since NINETEEN NINETY- whatever. After eating, we again waited for a jeepney that will take us to Metropolis but again because we were unlucky, there is none but the same taxi who took us to Festival was still around the area so he decided to take us to the terminal station near Metropolis Alabang.

The fact that playing NBA LIVE 08 will just washed my brain out, I decided to join Rio to take Tarah to SM MegaMall because it is where Tarah usually ride on her way to Rizal.

When we arrived at the mall, knowing that there is nothing for us to do in there, we just played at the World of Fun amusement center inside the mall and there we enjoyed playing games over and over until we run out of tokens(chips).

It was totally fun. It was a whole lot of environment to me. Maybe because I get used to my life that I meet the same faces day in a day out.

The whole experience was so simple yet it keeps me wondering how I'm missing my old life. I keep telling myself yesterday that I knew I have done this before and now I'm doing this again and it was fun. I really enjoyed being with Rio and Tarah that whole afternoon.

When I arrived in my dorm, I knew the day is not yet over to get a life so I decided to go to SM Manila and just stroll around the area. I ate, ordered my favorite Green Mango shake at Juice Ave., and then went home tired yet very relaxed.

I slept early yesterday... and dreamed badly...

Break- Ups 1

A break-up is absolutely the term used to coin an end to a relationship.

A friend asked me before a question that really haunted my mind from day 1. She asked me if why despite everything in a relationship like those never-ending arguments, overnight crying, fatigue and of course depression, people tend to still hold on and never command or initiate a break-up. I told my friend that in their case it's still easy to find an answer to your question. The solution is just a simple sense of humility as well as understanding of the whole situation. Never thinking of a possibility for a break-up may help but even if you taught about a single percent of a possibility for break-up, you still lose courage to push it forward because yes there is still love and if you do not call it love for some, the memories are just simply hard to forget.

Then she asked me again, that is their situation and how about yours? There are never-ending arguments, jealousy, depression and a plus factor that I admitted that I have never yet seen my future to that person where I am right now. I know it's too ironic to explain. So let me dissect some things to you. To summarize the whole story of my life, I kept asking myself why I never initiate a break-up despite a relationship which is almost taken for granted everyday. I kept thinking of looking for answer to that question but then I ended up formulating a reason and not an answer.

My reason- simply because break-up words and declarations such as "it's over", "we need space", "it's too complicated" are reasons that are repeated over and over again by people who commit the same mistake and who goes back to the same scenario in almost all of their relationships. I told the one who asked me that if I'm going to initiate a break-up with my girlfriend, then I would tell her no other words but simply "I wish I never met you". Then she told me its too sarcastic. But then I answered its brief and concise. I think the explanation is already in the reason or statement I formulated.

That is the same reason that has haunted for so many long time that I am afraid losing someone. It's not that love is always a factor, but because in all situations, there is fear you need to face. It is the fear that hurts the most. To coin a word and prepare for a mock break-up is easy even if you just practice the whole thing in front of a mirror. To tell it to the person you've been with and you've dreamed and wished that would change in the coming days just makes your feet tremble each and every moment you keep thinking of initiating a break-up.

Again...

Ok. So I'm definitely getting over with all that Trillanes' scenarios this country has have in the past week. It's time to move to another issue this time.

So I'm here in front of my best friend again trying to converge what's on my mind right now. I hope it would work. Yeah, they have the infrared before and now the Bluetooth so maybe they should try working out how to transfer memories of the human brain direct to PC. So maybe now that they have not tried to figure out how to do it despite all our advancements right, I have first to organized how I could do it manually.

Anyways, I'm currently listening alternately to two songs right now. The first one is "Before I Got High"by Afroman and the other one is "Apologize" by One Republic. I just got so addicted to those songs today. A very good friend of mine told me about the Last Song Syndrome and for today I'm suffering of two tracks. Who cares? As long as there is no tumor in it so what?

I really don't know what exactly I would like to write right now. I don't exactly know what I should be doing right now. I don't have any idea what is going on with myself and basically I all I know is that things are getting worse each and everyday I'm trying to do something or failed to do something.

I'm having plans of creating a substitute blog about the weirdest things I've done in the past as well as my revelations about my life of course. Watch out for it.

At 2:30 PM, Trillanes said that "nothing will happen after 3 PM", referring to the deadline PNP NCRPO Chief Gerry Barias imposed regarding the standoff. Danilo Lim later told reporters "mangyari na ang mangyayari". Wow. Brave foolish men fighting for what they belive is right? In your dreams.

I thought at that moment that it was going to be Trillanes' shining moments because of his so called "heroic acts" and possibly could have been the best live and no holds barred - raw coverage of ABS-CBN in decades when...

About 5 PM, when tear gasses were all around the HOTEL, and an APC was already inside the lobby, plus hundreds of PNP's scattered in the area ready to launch a what could have been a preempted assault...

Trillanes and Company decided to surrender like cowards. Huwatt?...

FYI, the only missing thing in my DVD Movie Marathon experience earlier this afternoon was a PopCorn...

I would really love to see if Trillanes's blood sheds all over the place. If his body would be brought to the slaughter house and auctioned to EBAY.

and frankly, I was looking for a "subtitle" in that one helluva TV marathon like what I used to do when watching movies.

Last Full Show

It's our last week of stay here in Cavite and one word is on my mindset - CHERISH. Yeah, I'm trying to enjoy my last week here and I will share it to the world with dozen of pictures and videos that I will post here soon.

How Mayor Lim is Trying to Kill Manila

My mom came to visit me last Friday here in Manila. One time, we were walking along the street of Pedro Gil when we spotted that a raid of those illegal sidewalk vendors is happening around the place. The people were in hurry which I believed are the vendors who can hide their stuffs they can still hide from those people in authorities which I believed were from the Manila City Hall because they are wearing ID's of the city hall. There were tables and chairs flying. There were those people screaming and crying which are the vendors again who are doing everything so that the confiscators would return their stuffs. It was really a tensed afternoon for them. Of course, there were those people like who happened to be in that moment trying to get whatever news as if there were a film shooting with all of its star-studded cast.

Poor sidewalk vendors. They were trying to make a living out of selling stuffs in the streets with only their voices as pure investment in a 24/7 system and now all their items are being confiscated because it is illegal.

Is being illegal the real reason? Or is it that the Mayor of Manila is just trying to kill every single low-paying individual in the city like what he has done in the Baywalk area as soon as he stepped into his office. This is really absurd. One time me and my girlfriend brought a wooden piggy bank right in that same street from an old man not because we really wanted to have that piggy bank or because the piggy bank was beautiful but we just wanted to help that old man earn from us because he was doing that the whole time trying to sell it to people walking in that place. We wanted him to live for a day with that 75 pesos price of the piggy bank. Now, the great mayor of manila is eradicating every single indivdual in that area. What a mess for him to see them.

The only irony is that the same people who are in that area would basically be the same people who voted for him last May elections. Of course, they were the "common tao" who are hoping that they would get a new life with Mayor Lim as mayor hoping that he will be the kind and "makamasa" mayor they knew.

I know that those "bangketas" could not actually boost up the business economy of the city compared to those malls like SM, ROBINSON's, etc., but forgive them for being in a 3rd world country.

We have the microeconomics and the macroeconomics as taught to us by many economic movers of our history but for God's sake, these people trying to make money in the sidewalks are part of our underground economy. They may not give high revenues or taxes and they may not care about so many foreign exchanges and the may not boost and may not be a part of the stock exchange and everything, but they are one great key of the Filipino people, of the common Juan DeLa Cruz in hopes of survival in our poverty stricken land. They are the market in which people rely in hopes of getting products in the prices they can afford. They are the best substitutes in all those uprising of commodities in out market. Millions of Filipinos rely on them so why kill them?

To you Mayor Alfredo Lim, why blame them for making a living out on the streets when you can't provide them one? You've taken the lights out of the once busy BAYWALK and killed the talents of musicians, waiters earning a penny out of a night job and now you're killing the children of those vendors who rely their daily "baon" from their nanay selling retail goods in the street.

Excuse me for my British accent but I think you're really such a tool.

The Philippine Daily Inquirer headlines today that "Typhoon Mina" spares Bicol region and is now heading to the provinces of Aurora and Isabela.

This is a good news indeed for all Bicolanos as our prayers have been answered.

I pray for all my BICOLANO folks affected by typhoon "Mina". I don't have any idea what may be going on right now in all parts of Bicol but I hope they are still doing fine and having a tight sleep.

I just hope there would be no chance of a "Reming-repeat" over this weekend in my beloved province.

The Last Assignment: Ma'am Noverro

I blogged last early monday about a professor of mine who gave us a paper work which I still haven't submitted until today. That professor, who is suffering as what we know with asthma since she arrived in our class as a partner of our other professor Dra. Lopez, has been really having a hard time coping with us while she's teaching.

Ma'am Noverro, as we usually call her by her last name, passed away hours after I've blogged about her in this blog.

Ma'am Noverro, has recently peacefully joined her creator in heaven.

We were all shocked here in Cavite right after we heard of the news. It was a sad news obviously for the whole PWU nursing community especially that PWU is depleted again of a hardworking teacher. Imagine, she is suffering from an illness and still she continued to teach 44 hard-headed students like us.

She has been our teacher for our major subject about two months already. Typically, she's been absent most of the time and news is that during those times, she's been hospitalized because of her illness.

The last time I saw her was before we have our halloween vacation. I was one of the last NG3-04 student to talked to her because she asked me to collect pictures of my classmates for a seat plan she is requiring us. That was the last time. Since then, I never heard her voice again. I never heard again that seemed to be a shouting voice which really culminates pain and her difficulty in speaking. Until now, I still have the pictures which I failed to complete. My lastassignment was not the paper work I failed to submit to Dra. Lopez but the seat plan which she is hoping to remember us for the rest of her life.

I have joked many times about her and now is the time I asker her forgiveness.

The lighter side is that she has been suffering many times in her life with her illness and the only thing I could say right now is that Lord grant her the rest she deserves with all the angels of heaven. She must be happy wherever she is right now.

To Ma'am Noverro, may you Rest in Peace.

Whoever invented or discovered this mouth-watering BREAD of the CENTURY is a real GENIUS. He surely knows how to make money. I'm so much sure I can survive a decade with only this as my diet.

Indolence

I should be sleeping by now but here I am again in front of the computer. I've been busy these past weekend because I've finally got the chance to play EA SPORTS latest addition to basketball gaming which is NBA LIVE 08. I've been playing the NBA LIVE series since NBA LIVE 2003 and I've been addicted to the DYNASTY MODE the year after.

I should be at McDonald's Pedro Gil by 5 am later for our duty again in Dasma and Trece Martirez, Cavite but I don't have any plans yet of getting to my bed. I'm still enjoying life at this moment.

I should be sleeping by now. I've been lazy this past week. My teacher in my major subject texted me earlier this evening giving me one last chance to submit my requirement which is a paper works requiring me to write a heck of notes from the book. I thank her for giving me that last chance. We have two professors in that subject. The first one is Dra. Lopez (I don't know her first name), a very kind professors who likes to give chances for students, I mean failing students like me who doesn't care of the world. I really admire her for doing that. She gives high grades also. She is not the one who gave us the assignment. It's actually my other professor, her partner, an asthmatic who would totally fall off a cliff with one silent whisper who until now is I think in the hospital because of her asthma attacks. She was the brave person to gave us the stupid paper work.

I mean why do professors like her would require us to read a thousand page book in nursing and all of a sudden they would require us to write the whole thing which is already in the damn book. I mean grow up. Things such as those are tolerable back in the elementary days where in teachers are busy selling the "tocino's" and "longganisa" especially in public schools where in some of your teacher come to school without even having a prepared lesson plan. Of course, add the idea that those were the days where in INTERNET is not yet as widely used as today.

Why would they require us to submit paper works that are handwritten in this modern technological age? Where is justice?

Still, I thank Dra. Lopez for the kind attitude of giving chances and that is the only consolation I got in this trimester so far when it comes to "dealing" subjects.

Things to Ponder: For PWU Students

This post has something to do with my duty here in Trece Martirez, Cavite.

From our dormitory in Dasma, Cavite, we arrived at Summerfield Subd. Brgy Osorio, Trece Martires at around 8:30 in the morning. It was just another ordinary day because we've been doing this for two weeks already. Yesterday, we did not finish looking for a family for our typology next week so we loiter around the place to look for a should be "depressed family". The usual "tambay" moments happened so we stop over a small sari-sari store and my classmate found out that the owner has a breast cancer and needs blood donor for her supposed operation. Honestly, I do not have any idea about what operation would be done(I don't know the medical term). With "gift of charity" in mind, four of us decided to volunteer to donate our blood so we asked permission to out clinical instructor and he allow us to go the hospital where the operation would be performed. We ride a tricycle on our way to Bonifacio Medical Center in the capital city of Cavite but the hospital was a public government-owned hospital so we were not able to make reservations during that day and they told us that due to the hundred of early reservations, obviously they can't accomodate us. We again loiter in the hospital while waiting for our "ale" when suddenly, a former CI/Professor of PWU was also in there as a CI for another school.

Due to some private matters and sensitivity of his(or her??) identity, I decided not to name the person here in my blog.

WE were shocked to see him in the hospital. Rumors says that he is working as a call center agent in which he confirmed but of course everybody's question is what happened before he decided to resign as PWU nursing professor. I have heard the story from different gossip personalities of PWU and from our current CI but of course, I believe that there are two sides for every stories so I think it is the right time if he tell us his side. He jokingly asked us what "paninira" were made by PWU Nursing professors about him. Of course, we actually avoided the issue but it came and he confessed to us that yes, some stories were partly true and correct but also others were sensationalized. That is his story. That is his summary.

It's just a pity because that professor was really one of the best PWU have over the years. But in reality, those best doesn't come out to be good the way we see them in later parts.

I know that our country has been suffering from so much fiscal and financial crisis which unfairly affects the masses and the professionals that is why some real professionals are leaving the country in search for greener pastures abroad but do some things like what happened to him really should be done to alleviate poverty or caprices?

I mean why does it have to resort on this things? I remember back in high school when I was taught about one great quotation by one great author:

"The end justifies the means"

Some people we know may be very best at their skills but none of them are perfect. Like Robin Hood, he help the poor by stealing. Is it the same to this professor I/we knew, to bestow knowledge to hundreds by stealing hundreds also?

Unfairly, we ostracize people by the little mistakes they commit. But we give pardon to people even if it is thousands and millions of pesos they steal.

Yes of course, wisdom in line with honesty must start in every small institution we are involved in order to promote to the macroscopic level. But who knows the extremes to such things as this? Do we really care?

Sneaking

I find a way to sneaked out of my dormitory here in Cavite to try out the Internet Cafe's and I was never disappointed by its services. Yes, there were no air-conditioned rooms like what there is in Manila but the connection is at least reliable and fast.

I blogged earlier this morning about ignorance and now, I'm thinking that maybe I should have blogged about stupidity because of what happened to us earlier before we got here in Dasma for our second week of duty.

Something Personal

I'm back here in Manila after almost a week of being in Cavite for our duty. A lot of weird things really happened while we were in there. Of course, we were new to the place so we caught ourselves with some unfamiliar stories of ghosts and other spooky things that usually happened in provinces. I really don't have must time to narrate everything but all I can say is that I have a very memorable experience while in there. I have great classmates who were really great cooks. I enjoyed so much of my time except for the third day. We have a great CI with Sir Bong. It was fun and that is the best thing to describe our first week.

Counting hours

I'm just few hours away before I step into my biggest adventure so far as a so-called Nursing Student. It's really funny when I think of what is happening in my life.

Here's a simple story.

A friend of mine messaged me yesterday that one of our friend and former classmate who happens to be a nursing student in Bicol currently has her wrap up of a clinical affiliation somewhere here in Manila as part of her course requirements. I was amazed when I heard the news. My dad was right when he was convincing me three years ago to enroll in a nursing school here in Manila rather in Bicol. Unlike in Manila, if you are assigned in a ward, especially in a secondary hospital in the province, I think the best case of a patient you would get are those suffering from hypertension which are really common for geriatric patients. I got a chance to experience that when my lola suffered mild hypertension the last time I was there and we rushed her to the nearby hospital and she was confined to a female ward in which all patients cases are the same as her. Unlike here in Manila, even the simplest secondary hospitals have patients with cases as Diabetes 1 and 2, post cholecystectomy patients and wards are grouped if it is a Surgical or Medical ward as the most common and there are others like the Orthopedic ward and when you go to a Medical Center here in Manila there are even wards called as Fil-Ambulatory ward, the Infectious and Non-Infectious Ward. I happened to be assigned in Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center "Emergency room" right after my capping and I was really amazed of how hysterical they could get. We used to treat there patients who really have some of the weirdest life experiences in life. My favorite ER section is the Trauma where we used to treat patients who were shot by a gun, stabbed and those who were drunk and are already just wasting their life over alcohol. Another section in the ER was the OB for those patients who are going to labor their child and the best experience I have there is when a mother labored her child in a pedicab. We were only in there for about three weeks but the experience was great. In reality, some patients are really absurd unlike in the province where people are so friendly and fun loving.

The real thing I want to share is that I left Bicol three years ago to experience the city life while learning but here they are, they are throwing us to Mendez, Cavite. Yes, I understand that Mendez is an urban municipality as suggested by Wikipedia but Cavite? Cavite is a province. It's really funny but that is my destiny - to be near home and to experience place like home. That is the reason why I'm really looking forward to this whole community experience thing. This is also another way for me to look for some peace of mind. No TV's that would mean no political news/issues, no entertainment and all for the good of the health community of Mendez.

So Cavite, let's get it on.

Setting Off

I may not update this site for this coming week because I will be out of the metro for my duty. I'll be in Mendez, Cavite for the month of November every Mondays to Thursdays for our community experience as part of my duty rotation starting this November 5.

I would surely miss the internet and the whole civilization things here in the metropolis. Hopefully, things would be just fine in there. We are clueless about the place right now. All I can say right now is that I'm having a PBB-fever because basically we'll be there locked-up for less than a month and we are all feeling like HOUSE MATES.

PBA New Era

The 33rd season of the Philippine Basketball Association, the first play-for-pay league in Asia has kicked-off last Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum with some new additions on the country's best basketball league.

I have been a basketball enthusiast since my childhood days and up to now it has been really one of my wildest ambition to be a basketball player even though I'm short of certain physical attributes like height so all I can do is watch basketball games in front of my television. I've seen them all, from NBA to US NCAA to our very own PBA(live) and UAAP. My mother and I have been fanatics of Alvin Patrimonio during my early days and now there are some inheritance going on with James Yap glamorous play(those fan enthusiasm and no-airhead play as well as both players have been linked to Kris Aquino). I've seen how the PBA have had its golden years and its downfall and how the players changed their strategies from season-to-season.

Now, PBA boasts its Philippine Cup(even though the first pick of the last 3 seasons are all Filipino-Americans) opener with some rule changes along with executive changes and here are some of those new additions to the PBA.

NEW Commissioner:

After the morality issues of former PBA Commissioner Noli Eala, he has been replaced by a former PBA executive and now the new officer-in-charge Sonny Barrios. Eala has done so much for the PBA. We've seen how he managed to take charge of a league already on its downfall and then back to a stable condition. I think it is the first challenge for Sonny Barrios as now new head of the league.


NEW Players:

PBA teams beefed-up their rosters during the 2007 Annual Draft by putting some really promising college players from both the UAAP and NCAA led by Joe Devance from the PBL as Welcoat's top pick. Though the issue of citizenship of many of its players would never be erased from the league history, these Filipino-American players must prove that they have the skills not only those physical skills but the moral decency as well as proper behaviors.


NEW Rules:

The PBA adopted some of the rules used in FIBA tournaments to prepare its players for international competition as well as to give the fans a more exciting game play. Some of the new rules are:

-The PBA 3-point line has been shortened to FIBA's 20 feet line. This means that shots made beyond the blue line would be considered as a triple. As a result, I've seen the game opener of Air21 and Magnolia and it produced a more scoring opportunities for both teams especially those with players who has those long range capabilities. Expect a game to end reaching century-mark scores like what we saw on Sunday and expect players to have those Kobe Bryant mentality like what KG Canaleta of Air 21 did last Sunday. It would be a shooting parade the whole season. I think this rule is advantageous to those teams who have a lot of guards in their rotation because guards are used to have that long-range mentality. It's just too bad for those teams who are used to playing defensively using the zone defense as this rule would tempt players to shoot more beyond the arc. James Yap, RenRen Ritualo and Mark Caguioa sure loves this rule.

-"The Paint" is now trapezoidal in shape from the traditional rectangular meaning there would be a wider space for those big men like Asi Taulava of Talk N' Text and the two Danny's of Magnolia. We would really now be able to see who could dominate the paint more in a physical game but the disadvantage is that the "No Parking" zone area or the 3-second violation is prone to this rule. To adjust to this certain rule, players must now start moving more quickly and freely around the floor. I think this rule adds more physicality to the basketball game as what Purefoods and Sta. Lucia did in their game earlier where in there has been 9 technical fouls and 2 players were thrown out of the game.

-The "controlled hand check" is now allowed to speed up the game which I think will be advantageous to those shooting guards as they have the capability to take over games. Expect a fast-paced action packed game in the next weeks of the league.

Anyways, teams would try to adjust primarily on these rules to adopt it to their basketball system and a new brand of play would be seen in the league.

Battle of the Fixers: ZTE NBN

This time, I would like to post something about the very critical issue of the proposed National Broadband Network project of the government as part of its plan to make a cyber-corridor in the country.

I won't tackle anything about the controversy but I would prefer the project much as a focus because with all the things and accusations going on right now with those different people involved from brokers to fixers to media people and senators, I believe in what Senator Joker Arroyo told during the investigation that the whole thing is a "battle of the fixers". I mean if you would try to look at the situation of any controversies that sprung up in our country from the 2004 elections to the Nursing Exam leak and now the ZTE NBN deal, those who lost and cannot accept defeats would always end up as the whistle blowers telling the people that they wanted to be an instrument of change for the system and all those things but what the people does not know is that they are already used to that kind of system and they have been practicing that. I tell you, whether what kind of citizen you are of this country, I know your used to it or if not- your blinded by it.

Regarding the national broadband project, here is my simple opinion about the thing.

I've been using the internet since I was in my first year high school at home when somebody offered to install a dial up connection on my then PC so probably I've tried it all. From dial up, yeah those cards you scratched up like prepaid where in I could only buy them if I go to Naga City before it became available at our own market and up to those DSL they are advertising on television, I've used them all. I've already known what is best and what is the fastest among those providers. I tell you, I've been to different and hundreds of internet cafe's here in the metro and whether what type of internet provider they are using, they probably offer the same thing-internet connection at your fingertips.

You may say that DSL or broadband has been God's mercy to the technology world but I tell you, when things got screwed up while you are doing something on the internet, things would get a little scripted. Yeah, like those in movies wherein people have the same words. What I'm trying to say is that no matter what the provider you are subscribing to, when the connection messed up, you'll hear the same lines from them. Examples are "sir, we are currently having a technical problem", "sir, we are currently experiencing problems on our base station", "sir, could you please wait for 15 minutes before you connect to the internet again because we are currently having our service maintenance right now". Come on, you have probably heard one of those crappy lines those customer service representatives have been telling their customers for almost 8 hours in their day-to-day lives. Those providers do the best advertisements in the television with all those propaganda techniques in order for them to let people believe that theirs is fast but the customer service and manpower have always been the same whether you are using SMART Bro, Globe Broadband, PLDT MyDSL, and so on and so forth.

My point is that regarding the national broadband project, it would be the same if not worse. The service that the government would render to its customers which are mainly students as they proposed would be the question especially that they are as I say "government people". What if something went wrong while those public school students are accessing the internet, then what would happen? Are they going to call you and how fast would you be able to respond to the student's needs? Are you going to fix a simple technical glitch with an under the table expense? How about the issue on red tape? Is it applicable in the service you would provide especially that it has been practiced in all those government agencies we have right now?

The problem in this idea of the government is the trust and mentality of the people about the government itself. The first thing they should take into consideration is how they could provide the service in the good of all those people involved. How they would anticipate uncommon things must be taken into consideration especially that this is a very ambitious plan. In the end, whether this project succeed or not, it is the literacy of the people that is sacrificed in all these controversies. The goal of improving the education and beefing up knowledge is a great idea but the idea would always end up in question of how.
